13 Sep GAC Aion UT Review: Singapore’s Most Affordable Way Into an AION EV?
Circling a multi-storey carpark in an HDB estate for a spot built for something smaller is a familiar Singapore problem, and the Aion UT was built to these tight corners with ease and comfort. It is the smallest and most affordable model in the AION range: a Category A electric hatchback built for city streets and daily commutes.
Most readers know AION through the family-focused Aion Y Plus or the larger Aion V, which are known for large boot space and smooth driving on long roads. The UT is a different proposition, with a smaller footprint and a more competitive price. It is built for daily commutes, errands, and squeezing into tight HDB carparks, not the occasional long drive up to Malaysia. For a first-time EV buyer weighing up whether to commit, the UT lowers the barrier to entry without asking you to give up the essentials.

Both variants share the same 100kW motor, which is what keeps the UT under the Category A COE cap. Where they differ is torque. Where they differ is torque. The numbers show it: the Premium’s extra 65Nm gets it to 100km/h in 10.0 seconds versus about 12 for the Standard, a gap that counts more at traffic-light starts than at steady expressway speed. The Aion UT interior does not feel as compact as the 4,270mm body suggests, since it shares its 2,750mm wheelbase with the Aion Y Plus. Rear legroom lands at 905mm, and both variants seat five.
Range, Charging and V2L

The Premium’s 410km WLTP range, drawn from a 60kWh LFP battery, comfortably covers a week of city commuting. Most local drivers commute, shop and pick the kids up from the same few areas, so the Aion UT is built for short trips around a small locality, not long stretches down a highway that Singapore simply does not have. A 30 to 80 per cent DC fast charge takes around 24 minutes on either variant, quick enough to top up during a grocery run rather than plan around. Public charging points are now common across carparks, malls and housing estates island-wide, so a UT owner is rarely far from a top-up even without a home wall box.
Both variants come with Vehicle to Load, or V2L, as standard. The car becomes the power source: plug in a laptop while parked near a hawker centre, run a portable fan at East Coast Park, or keep small appliances going on an overnight camping trip. A small feature on paper, but it turns the car into something more useful than a way to get from A to B.
What Does It Actually Cost to Own?
Category A COE eligibility is confirmed on both variants, since 100kW keeps the UT comfortably under the cap, and VES Band and ARF rebate eligibility are confirmed too.
Financing follows the same terms as the rest of the AION range: rates from 2.28 per cent per annum, loan packages up to 60 per cent LTV, tenures up to 7 years, a structured COE bid arrangement, and a full year of road tax at no extra cost.
Ownership is backed further by up to 10 years of warranty and 10 years of free servicing as standard on every GAC Aion sold through Key Motor, well beyond the roughly three years or 100,000km most petrol cars offer.
